Lanier 5635
The Lanier 5635 is another quality copier from Lanier, a division of Ricoh. It is a full size machine aimed directly at the large business or workgroup. It offers features and upgrade options to allow it to be at home in any kind of situation.
The controls are simple enough to be able to service most needs and the helpful LCD screen is easy to read. The type, size and scope of the control panel depends on which version of the Lanier 5635 you have. The standard 5635 only has the copier, the printer, fax and scanner are all options, and the control panel reflects that.
As a digital copier, the 5635 processes copying jobs in good time, producing 35 copies per minute with 600-dpi image quality for crisp, clean prints. The large touch screen allows walk-up users to easily set up copy, print, fax and scanning jobs if all the options are present.
The optional fax module elevates the 5635 to a true multifunction device. With 400 quick-dial numbers, and multiple communication ports, the 5635 allows users to maintain productivity by utilizing a quick scanner to send documents. Documents scanned for copying, printing or faxing can be stored in the 5635s built-in hard drive, creating a document repository that can be accessed over a network and reproduced on demand. This network scanning function allows users to convert paper into digital documents that can be distributed to any valid e-mail address.
Copy reproduction is very good, with text appearing clean and sharp. Images looked a little on the dark side, which is actually good for presentations. Color is rendered in grayscale accurately and graphs and photos appeared vivid and clear.
Overall, the 5635 is a good, device with a rich enough repertoire to satisfy most busy office needs. It’s good value for money, and the optional upgrades like the printer, scanner and fax are good ideas if you need them. With that replacement toners are readily available and good value, while robust enough to last the test of time. At $25 for 23000 pages worth of coverage, running costs are surprisingly low.
Those in the market for a good copier that can do other things if you want it to would be well advised to look at the Lanier 5635. It could be everything you need and more.
