Konica Minolta MagiColor 2530dl

The Konica Minolta MagiColor 2530dl is another inexpensive color laser printer from the Japanese camera giant. It continues the line of good quality office machinery that it started a while ago, and just keeps in getting better. It builds on previous models, improving print quality, built quality and upgradeability options. It now has twice the memory, a decent 64Mb rather than the 32Mb of before.

This is a device that would suit a small or home office based business with low to moderate printing needs. Reliability is one of the mainstays of this machine. It can print good quality monochrome pages at up to 15 pages per minute at 600 dpi, and decent quality color ones at around 5 pages per minute. It supports Windows, Linux and Mac for true versatility and can be networked or run from USB.

The build quality is typical Konica, compact but sturdy with nothing that looks like it would fall off any time soon. The MagiColor 2530dl is supplied with a 200 sheet paper tray, with the option of increasing that to 500 with an extra tray purchase. Toner cartridges are easily replaceable after they have served their 4500 page yield, simply lift up the top, expose the carousel and change whichever one needs it. Replacements are reasonably priced at an approximate cost of $65 each.

The control panel is simple and straightforward with decent sized buttons and a clear LCD screen. There isn’t much for it to do though, as it’s far easier to use the PageScope software to control it from a PC. Connecting the printer to a network takes less than five minutes. In our tests we simply attached the cat5 cable to our router and the printer was discovered within seconds. It then made itself available to everyone on the test workgroup who could print as soon as they had the drivers. This ease of use is a hallmark of Konica. They try very hard to make their devices as simple to use and maintain as possible without compromising features.

The 2530dl is a solid performer. Ideal for the small or home business who wants a good quality multifunction printer at a decent price. Consumables are well priced and offer decent yield so the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2530dl won’t cost a fortune to own.

Panasonic DP 2310

If you need fast, high quality printing from a manufacturer you can trust, the Panasonic DP-2310 is the device for you. From basic copying of documents, minutes or emails to the production of stapled reports, or marketing materials, the DP-2310 delivers.

It can print and copy up to 23 pages per minute at a resolution of 600 dpi. The 256 grayscale tones allows accurate reproduction of mono or full-color images. Panasonics image stabilizing technology controls the laser much better which allows a much finer print. This gives the DP-2310 over its competitors by allowing it to produce a much finer, and more exact print finish. Couple this with the finer particles used in Panasonic toners, and you can begin to see why the print reproduction is so good.

The half VGA LCD screen provides fast access to the device functions as well as helps users learn how to use the device. The helpful graphical representations on screen allows users to be walked through the processes, and informs them of status.

The optional fax kit for the DP-2310 transforms it into a high performance multifunction device. The Super G3 modem transmits at 33.6kbps and can send a legal sized document to up to 220 destinations at once.

The DP-2310 can be connected via network or USB and comes complete with a comprehensive driver suite and productivity tools. Automatic network discovery allows it to find and join a workgroup automatically and will work immediately the drivers are installed on the client machines.

The DP-2310 can be controlled completely from the desktop using the tools provided. The software, and the control panel both offer a before and after view of the document you are about to process. This is an excellent feature that lets you preview the finished document to ensure it’s the right quality. This saves time, and consumables as the document can be manipulated before actually printing.

There are a whole raft of options that you can add to the DP-2310 if you want to. Extra paper trays, document finishers, network scanners, document handlers, extra memory and a hard drive. This all means that the machine is a truly modular device that can evolve and grow with the business it serves.
