Okidata C5800

The Okidata C5800 is a no-nonsense duplexed color printer suitable for the small offices or small workgroups. It is an effective all round printer for low demand environments that will occasionally need some good quality documents.

The build quality is typical Oki, solid and compact with no flimsy bits or weak looking plastic trays. The construction feels reassuringly solid, while the output is good enough for most office needs. Setup is a breeze with either USB or network connections included. The software suite and drivers are enough for just about any use and the fact that is supports PCL and PostScript means it can be used with Windows, Mac or Linux.

Like many other printers Oki makes, the C5800 uses LEDs instead of lasers. It makes no difference to the output but improves print speed and reliability as there are fewer moving parts. LEDs are also cheaper to manufacture and replace if they go wrong, which should lower the total cost of ownership somewhat.

Text quality is good, with the edges appearing straight with no jaggies. Larger text areas were even, with no banding visible in any of the test documents. Color printing is just as good, with our color document being printed in 1 minute 22 seconds. The average print speed of the C5800 is 32 pages per minute for mono and 26 for color which is about equal to the other models in the Oki “C” range.

Toner cartridges are replaced from the top. It lifts up like a clamshell which exposes the cartridges underneath. They are easily extracted using the clearly labeled latches and the replacements clip into place in their place. Both the monochrome and color cartridges are purported to last for 5000 sheets each.

Scalability isn’t an option with the C5800, as this is a complete printer. There are no options to buy more trays, memory or anything. You would need to look at the C6100 for that.

The C5800 is a good printer for companies who don’t print much. It is a very capable machine, but doesn’t have the duty cycle of some of the bigger models.

Canon Copier ImageClass MF6560

Tired of running around to different machines for scanning, printing, copying and faxing documents? It sure saves a lot of time if we get all that in a single machine. I was looking for something like this and then I stumbled upon the Canon Copier ImageClass MF 6560 laser printer with a built in scanner, copier and fax machine. Buying this piece of equipment saved me a lot of money, not to mention the convenience I get with keeping an all in one machine at my office.

This Canon copier is a newer model in the series of all in one printing machines in its range. The device is not that heavy and does not occupy too much space in my office. The machine has a duplex automatic document feeder with a capacity of fifty sheets. The option of duplexing is not available in older models of Canon and it allows me the option of printing, scanning and copying from double sided documents. The duplex option allows the user to produce documents in a number of styles such as two sided prints.

The ImageClass MF6560 promises a printing and copying speed of twenty three pages per minute. Practically I know that the actual speed is a little less than that for high quality copies. But then again, it is much higher than most models available at the same price. The machine has a front paper tray that can store five hundred sheets at a time which I find is enough in order to avoid frequent refilling. There is a multipurpose tray that has the capacity of a hundred sheets. You can put a variety of paper types in the multipurpose tray such as transparencies, envelopes and color paper.

The image quality of scanned documents produced by ImageClass MF6560 is fairly good. The color depth is 24 bit which is plenty good enough for me. The machine gives an optical resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and an interpolated one of 9600 x 9600 dpi. The built in fax machine is works ok as well and I get the service I want. The toner cartridge is also really easy to change, and is not an ink-guzzling machine, so works out to be pretty cost effective.

Another feature of this product that prompted me to go for it was the 3 year limited warranty which is not there with the older models. All in all the Canon Copier ImageClass MF6560 is a good choice for people looking to save money and time with their office machines.

Dell 3110cn

Dell is a name well known in the computer market. It was no surprise when the company began diversifying into peripherals and consumables to support its mainstream offerings.

The Dell 3110cn is a big black box of a printer that hints at the power within. It is a color laser printer that can service 60,000 copies per month, so it aimed squarely at businesses rather than home users. It is a heavy duty printer, designed to handle everything the average office or workgroup can throw at it with ease. The design is functional but reassuring, the black and silver making a nice statement next to the other, standard beige office equipment.

It performs well too. The 3110cn produces monochrome prints at a rate of 30 page per minute and color at 17 pages per minute. While not the fastest on the market, it is no slouch either.

The print quality is good, even on fonts down to 3pt, at a standard resoltuion of 600dpi. The monochrome reproduction is the real strength of the 3110cn. While printing photographs isn’t a laser printers strength, the image quality is good enough for leaflets or brochures, with only a little dithering when translating full color pages.

The hardware is specified to keep printing long after similar priced competitors have given up or broken down. The 400Mhz processor and 128Mb memory is enough for even the most demanding workgroups, but the memory can be upgraded to 1Gb if necessary. It can be connected via USB or via network as the n in 3110cn indicates. An added feature is the opional wireless adapter that can be added to allow true wireless printing.

The paper drawer is at the bottom fron of the machine and can handle up to 250 sheets. There is also a 150 sheet multi-purpose drawer above it that can either be used for envelopes and other non standard materials, or in addition to the 250 sheet drawer to take it’s total capacity to 400.

Replacement toner are plentiful and most online retailers stock them. The standard black toner can print approximately 5000 pages, and the color ones around 4000 before needing replacement. At $99, the standard black is competitlvely priced and offers a lower cost per page than many other manufacturers on the market.

Overall, the Dell 3110cn is a solid performer. Ideally placed to fulfill the needs of the business or larger office. It’s strong enough to cope with almost anything, and at a reasonable price point is an attractive proposition for most businesses.

Brother HL 5140

The Brother HL-5140 is a competitive monochrome printer that offers high quality prints with the ability to expand the device should it become necessary.

The HL-5140 is one of Brothers range of workhorse printers. Nothing to look at but offers solid dependability while producing good quality, high resolution prints for days on end. This device is ideal for the small business who isn’t worried about printing in color who wants a good value, long lasting printer.

Printing at 20 pages per minute at 600 dpi, the HL-5140 works quickly enough to be productive, but produces quality enough to suit most needs. It warms up in 18 seconds, and once warm will have a completed print on the tray 10 seconds after pressing the print button. Both figures quite respectable at this budget.

Despite being designed for the smaller business, the HL-5140 can cope with large print jobs thanks to the 133Mhz SPARC processor and 16Mb of memory. If that wasn’t enough, the memory is upgradeable to a decent 144Mb. Manual duplexing allows for all that power to be utilized in producing double sided prints too. The 250 sheet standard paper drawer is also partnered by a single sheet feeder and a 150 sheet output tray. There is also an optional paper tray to expand the paper capacity by a further 250 sheets.

To add to the functionality, the printer natively supports different sized paper, envelopes, labels and card stock. This can make printing business literature, marketing blurb and business cards a breeze.

Setup is quick and easy. Connection is by USB or parallel port, and the drivers are installed on each client machine. There is an option to purchase Ethernet or wireless connectors too, which adds flexibility if more was needed.

Toner is readily available and easy to refresh. A simple clip mechanism allows quick removal and replacement, keeping downtime to a minimum. New cartridges are reasonably priced with the high yield variants able to produce up to 6500 pages of standard business documents.

With the expansion potential of the extra paper drawer, networking options and expandable memory, this is an ideal printer for the new business who is set to grow. Adding these elements to an existing printer of a good quality is much cheaper than constantly upgrading and offers a cost effective printing option.

The reasonable cost of consumables, and these scalable features, coupled with the good text reproduction leaves me with no hesitation in recommending this product. Overall, a great printer.

Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300W

The Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300W is another quality printer from the electronics giant from Japan. It is marketed as a desktop printer for the SOHO market, and is just that. It differs from the similarly named 2300DL in color, shape performance and capability, and it is odd that they used a very similar designation for a totally different machine.

Printing is of good quality, the reproduction during testing were clean and accurate. Image detail was good with no banding on black and white images, and accurate reproduction on color. Our test document is 28 pages of text, mono images, colored text and colored images, so gives us a real flavor of what a printer can do. The speed is also okay with a rating of 16 pages per minute for monochrome and 4 for color.

The 2300W can handle 200 sheets of paper in the drawer, with no option to expand. The built in 32Mb memory can be so it reaches the maximum of 288Mb.

Toners are easy to replace, and relatively inexpensive. Cartridges are good for 4500 sheets in black, and the drum is also good for 4500. All are fairly easy to change, and shouldn’t present any problems to experienced users. Like relatively few others on the market, this printer came with standard cartridges included as opposed to “starter” ones, which are often half or less than half full.

Connecting and configuring the 2300W is as straightforward as it gets. It can be connected via USB or parallel, with no network option included. The drivers and user manual are easy to use and logical. Overall, setup took less than 30 minutes, from the time we started opening the package to the time we ordered the first print.

The 2300W is a no-nonsense dedicated printer. What it prints it does with luster and good quality. The price and general usability makes up for a lack of features making this a viable option for those offices who aren’t in a hurry, and prefer quality over quantity.

Konica Minolta BizHub C45

The Konica Minolta BizHub C451 is an exciting prospect for the medium sized workgroup. Priced to sell in a competitive market, it performs well, and offers a lot for the money.

While there are many full color laser multifunction’s on the market, they don’t come as well featured as the BizHub C451. It can handle printing, copying and scanning, and performs them all with ridiculous ease. There is also the option to add faxing to the mix for a full multifunction machine.

Connecting the device is via USB or ethernet. The USB option is the quickest to set up, but offers slower transfer speeds than ethernet. Networking the device was also straightforward but took a little longer. It was soon auto-discovered on the network once powered up, and once the drivers were installed we were good to go.

The control panel is well designed and easy to understand. There are large buttons that allow you to select printing, copying and scanning, but the full color LCD steals the show. It is one of the clearest and brightest screens we have seen. It allows you to fully control every aspect of the device from its easy to follow menu system.

The output quality is very good, with pages being produced at a rate of 45 pages per minute. The text reproduction was outstanding in our tests with very crisp edges and no jaggies to be seen. Grayscale was smooth and images was very good overall. Color printing was superb considering this is a laser. Images and photos were the highlights, both printing and copying. The color reproduction was accurate and there were no overtones, or spill anywhere.

Paper is held in a group of four drawers at the front totaling a maximum of 3650 sheets. Replacement toner cartridges can produce 40,000 pages in black and 27000 in color. Considering a black toner is on $45, that constitutes a significant saving in running costs over many other manufacturers.

For medium-sized businesses who need a hard working multifunction device the BizHub C451 is a worthy contender. It produces documents of a quality suitable for almost any use. There are enough options and cost saving reasons to consider the C451 as a long term companion in your office.

Canon LaserClass 710

The Canon LaserClass 710 is a great fax for business. It has many features that are generally restricted to machines at a much higher price point to this one and performs just as well. Its economical enough to be worth a look when you next need to buy a multifunction.

The Canon LaserClass 710 is a monochrome laser fax with copying, printing and scanning built in. Its a variation of a theme in that this is predominantly a fax with other capabilities. The traditional multifunction has been primarily a printer, copier then fax and scanner.

Fax features like broadcasting, dual access, built-in memory, an automatic document feeder and auto dialing make this a versatile machine for a busy office. The 33.3k modem can send a standard sheet in a little under 3 seconds while the built in memory has enough capacity to remember 500 pages of received faxes, which is expandable to 40Mb, which is enough for around 1000 fax pages.

There is also a 20 page automatic document feeder that may appear flimsy, but is much better constructed than it appears.

Copy quality is good, text was a real standout, with clean crisp edges even when printing or faxing at the lowest points. Simple images or graphics are rendered pretty accurately with the grayscale making short work of color images as easily as monochrome ones.

Dual access is a nice feature to have. It lets you load and prepare faxes even when the machine is already printing, faxing or copying. This allows you to get on with other things while not having to wait for it to finish. The fax has all the other features you would hope to see. Plenty of auto dials, fax forwarding, broadcasting, speed dialing, data/voice switching, configurable cover sheets and document resizing and so forth.

Coupled with a decent array of printing and copying features, this makes the device quite a capable one in most scenarios. Cartridges for the Canon LaserClass 710 are quite reasonably priced. A starter comes with it when you get it, and replacements are around $30 for a toner that is good for 4000 pages.

To sum up, the LaserClass 710 is an decent purchase for the small office.

Lexmark Optra T620

The Lexmark Optra T620 is a monochrome laser printer suited to the home or small office market and adds a little more variety to Lexmark’s market presence. The company is a powerhouse when it comes to producing good quality printers. Once known almost exclusively for their high quality inkjets, it didn’t take them long to make an impact onto the laser market. Now Lexmark easily competes with the heavyweights like Brother and Xerox for position.

Installing the T620 is as easy as getting it out of the box, installing the toner cartridges and connecting it. Connect to a computer via USB, or network if you have the DN version. It works with all operating systems, including many flavors of Linux, and the driver suite is easy to install too. The web-based control panel makes maintenance simple and allows you to modify many printer settings from the desktop.

Considering the fact this is a laser that prints at 30 pages per minute it offers good value for money. The initial purchase price is reasonable as are the running costs. You can pick up a toner for around $70, which will last up to 30000 pages. The duty cycle is an amazing 100000 pages too, which spans a whole raft of markets. It’s cheap enough for the home user or SOHO market, but capable enough for the office or workgroup market too. This continues Lexmark’s trend of trying to cover as many bases as possible without compromising on any of them.

As for the print quality, text is printed clean and clear, with straight lines and the toner appearing black instead of the dark gray that plagues some lasers. Graphs and images are just as good, with an even spread and accurate grayscale reproduction. Our test document is 24 pages long and includes everything it is likely to meet in daily use. It is a real test of a printers capabilities, and sorts the men from the boys in no time at all.

The T620 is a solid monochrome printer that offer great flexibility and value for money. This device is ideal for the office or home worker that wants good quality prints without a hefty price tag. Who want a good quality, reliable device that won’t let them down.

Dell 3100cn

The Dell 3100cn is a strong performance laser printer which gives sharp and clear prints. With all its fine features and speed it is most apt for personal use and above all the price is so affordable for a printer this good.

Actually I have had the chance to use it personally when I was at college and needed an affordable printer for printing essays. A friend recommended Dell to me and not once have I regretted buying it. It served its purpose well and was a great help as I had to submit an assignment every other day when I was doing my degree. The results of the black and white printing were outstanding. Even the smallest of fonts were legible and clear. When I needed some fancy marketing assignment done its colored graphics never disappointed me and always gave extraordinary results.

A 250 sheet paper tray comes with it as standard equipment which increases its capacity to 400 and it can be further expanded to 900 if required. This enhances its value. The toner cartridges for this printer are rated for about 4000 pages. Even the replacement cartridges can be bought at a reasonable price with regard to its high quality and clarity of images and texts printed.

The only small drawback is the size of the printer. It is heavy and occupies more space than a usual printer but since I did not have to move it around it suited me well and obviously good results was a major plus point. It has a blue light LCD display below which are three buttons for menu, cancelling job and a select button with four way arrow keys to make adjustments. The standard USB and parallel ports are also included.

The Dell 3100cn is a multipurpose printer that comes with a variety of connectivity options and 64MB RAM. The small RAM memory is suitable for about 10 people but is more than sufficient for using at home.
When rated overall Dell 3100cn has a lot of advantages and is very useful.

If you are looking for an easy to use printer which gives high quality results at an affordable price then there is no better option than the Dell 3100cn. The combination of its performance and features is exemplary and I highly recommend it to anyone what wants to use it for personal use or even a small business.

What You Need To Know About Samsung SCX 4623F

Overview
A few years ago, you were not able to find any laser multifunctional device at an affordable price. Nowadays, thanks to the technological advance, we can. Samsung SCX-4623F is all we need because it is an all in one device. It can be fax, printer, scanner and copier in the same time. It has an automatic document feeder and even though it is a monochrome laser printer, it can scan in color. If you are looking for paying little money per page, this printer is perfect for you.

Pros
If you are looking for a device easy to set and use, Samsung SCX-4623F is the right choice. It has a simplistic menu, and one touch buttons like one touch print button or one touch scan button. That is the reason why it is so simple to use. Even though you are a novice who just bought this printer, you will see that it is very simple to use. It can be used as a fax machine, which has a fax modem with a speed of 33.6 Kbps, which is making the faxing process very fast. Also, it uses Blue Compass navigation system, which inform you everything about the toner level, paper jam, cover open, job status and many other things like that.
Samsung SCX-4623F also has PC faxing feature. It is not very different from standard faxing. The difference between these two ways of faxing is that you can send from a computer to another one, by using PC faxing. It is a good feature because you save time and paper. Also, it can be used for communication with other fax machines, which is an advantage. If you want to save paper and consumables, Samsung SCX-4623F is ideal for you. Because of the existence of AnyWeb Print software, you can combine multiple parts of different documents on a single digital paper which can be printed or can be saved in a PDF format. For example, if you do not need a whole page, you can remove what you want and keep the rest on a digital page. On the same digital page you can add more paragraphs, pictures and all you need.

Cons
The printing speed is very low, compared with other laser printers. It can print only with a speed of 22 pages per minute in A4 format and it prints letter sized pages with a speed of 23 ppm. There are some InkJet printers in the same price range which have a higher printing speed. However, we should take in consideration that is a multifunctional device and the maintenance costs are low, so buying it will pay off.

Canon FaxPhone L80

The Canon FaxPhone L80 is a high speed fax that can also print and copy. It looks like a fax machine and acts like a fax machine but has the added advantage of being able to print and copy at a rate of 6 pages per minute. It has enough features to keep everybody happy while performing all its functions well enough to make it more than worth the investment.

While not designed primarily as a copier or printer, the FaxPhone L80 has the facilities to produce decent prints at around 6 pages per minute. While not up to the speed dedicated printer/copier, they are quite fast enough for the home user.

The quality was clear, sharp and belied the scale of the machine that produced them. Text was strong and exact, straight edges, sharp corners and deep fill. Images were almost as good, surprising for such a small machine and it surprised us all.

Operation is straightforward, working pretty much like a standard fax machine, with extra features. There is the standard phone keypad with extra buttons for print and copy functions. The small LCD screen is clear and contains just enough information to keep you running.

Connection is easy, using an RJ11 phone plug and a USB to connect to a computer. Its quite compact, at 23" x 17.5" x 16" and weighing in at 28 pounds. This makes is ideal for SOHO applications where space can be a problem. The small or home office is where this product is going to be most at home. The convenience of the small package, with the ability to print and copy from the fax is a nice touch and will appeal to small businesses.

The single cartridge system is simple to use, easy to change, produces little waste and is very cost effective. The machine ships with a half toner which is good for around 1000 pages. A replacement will set you back around $25 from somewhere like Quikshiptoner.com and will last for a further 2700.

The FaxPhone L80 is a solid fax and copier.

HP LaserJet P2035

The HP LaserJet P2035 is a laser monochrome printer that delivers, just like most other Hewlett Packard products. Its a solid, dependable machine that is worth much more than it costs and will last much longer than many of the competition.

The first thing you notice about it is the fact that it’s typical of the range. A compact cube shaped printer with no flaps, trays or other accoutrements to detract from the job at hand. There is a 250 paper tray at the bottom and a 50 sheet multipurpose tray.

The front flap exposes the toner and the paper path. This makes changing toner pretty easy, and if the printer ever jams, they are quickly freed through this access. The cartridges are good for 2300 pages and include the drum, toner and fuser in one package. This is one of the reasons running one of these is so easy, and cost-effective.

Print quality is spot-on, pardon the pun. The 600 dpi print engine produces good quality text that is crisp and black. the HP software can also simulate 1200 dpi for even more detail. Images and diagrams are well done with all prints showing only a tiny amount of banding and good contrast between grayscale shades. At up to 30 pages per minute its pretty quick but we found the average to be a little over 25 pages a minute, which is still respectable.

Out of the box its just a matter of removing the packaging, inserting toners and plugging it in. Its USB only so Windows computers will pick it up right away even before the drivers are installed. The drivers themselves are fully featured and will install in minutes. The software also includes productivity tools too to enhance the usability of the device.
