HP Color LaserJet 2600n
The HP Color LaserJet 2600n is an inexpensive color printer whose capability outshines the value by a decent margin. It has networking capabilities built in and can print quality documents in relatively little time.
It isnt the smallest printer in the world, and weighs quite a bit, so while it could be classed as a desktop printer, it would have to be a big desk. It would be far better off having its own space. Seeing as it can be networked, this shouldnt be a problem. HP obviously expect most users to use the 10/100 port as they dont include a USB cable with the package, so if you want to use it, order one of those at the same time as the printer.
Color printers are coming down in price all the time. They were not so long ago something only graphic designers and marketing departments could justify, now they are affordable for all of us. Now they are not only cheaper, but better everyones a winner. Hewlett Packard have a long established presence in the marketplace, known for producing quality equipment at decent prices. While their drivers might leave a little to be desired, their printers certainly dont.
The LaserJet 2600n is a typical example of an HP printer done well. Print quality is top notch with black text quality being a particular strong point. Crisp blacks, straight edges and clean letters at any point are just what we need in a laser. The graphics reproduction was also good with only the tiniest amount of blotching in grayscale, and excellent in color. Detail was retained in photos whichever print mode we used and looked good overall.
Our test document is designed specifically to make the printer work hard for its rating and Im pleased to say the 2600n didnt disappoint. It coped with all 24 pages of text, graphs, images and photographs admirably and didnt falter once. Many, much more expensive printers have failed these tests for one reason or another, but the 2600n breezed through without even blinking.
If you want a good quality printer for not a lot of money then the HP Color LaserJet 2600n is just the ticket. While not the smallest, or fastest printer in the world, it is the most reliable and consistent we have tested in a long time.
