Lexmark E250d
The Lexmark E250d is a monochrome laser printer and an ideal solution to everyday printing needs of the average small office. It would suit almost any situation as it is fast enough for the most demanding users, and produces prints of a quality high enough that you can’t help but be impressed.
At 28 pages per minute, the E250d is plenty quick enough for most users. The built-in duplexer is a nice bonus for a printer at this level, offering the ability to print double sided. Text prints are reproduced in high quality 1200 dpi, with clean lines and crisp edging. Image production is surprising, appearing in even better quality than the text. We know that images and photos aren’t the strong point of any laser printer, but it surprised us that the images were of such a high quality with the E250d that they outshone the text print.
The E250d would suit a small of home business with a low demand user base. It isn’t designed, or marketed for high duty cycle requirements. Build quality, cost effectiveness and reliability are the main selling points of this printer, and where its strengths really lie. Being so simple, the E250d is very easy to manage. There is no LCD screen, two buttons and five LED status lights. Any management of the printer will have to be done via the drivers.
The paper drawer holds 250 sheets, which is upgradeable to 800. It can be connected via USB or network with driver setup and administration is as easy as it is possible to be. Like others in the Lexmark range, adding this device to a network takes no time at all. The duplexer is unexpected at this price, but works well and didn’t perform as though any compromises were made to make it fit within budget.
The toner cartridges are easy to manage and replace. The cartridges and drums are readily available online and are quite good value for money. A single high yield toner cartridge is good for 4500 pages and retails for $50 at Quikshiptoner.com, whereas a drum will cost a mere $70 for 25000 pages.
The E250d is a good printer that provides prints of great quality. Ownership costs are reasonable enough to be worthy of consideration for anyone who is looking for a mono laser printer.
